Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) dedicated the Walt Stack Umpires’ Headquarters at Cottonwood Park Softball Complex on Aug. 18.

The building will provide a dedicated space for umpires during softball tournaments held at Cottonwood Park. The building is named in honor of Walt Stack, who began his umpiring career in 1959. In 60 years as a leader in Bismarck softball, Walt served as the Bismarck umpire-in-chief, North Dakota umpire-in-chief and as a representative on the national umpires’ staff.

“The ‘Stack Shack’ is a fitting tribute to Walt and will be a great enhancement to the Cottonwood Park Softball Complex,” says Kevin Klipfel, BPRD executive director. “The umpires’ headquarters was made possible through a Bismarck Recreation Council capital campaign with contributions from more than 200 donors who recognized the importance of honoring Walt’s legacy of service to softball in our community and across the nation.”
