VFW Sports Center Open House Scheduled for Feb. 28

The community is invited to celebrate the completion of the VFW Sports Center Expansion & Renovation Project on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the VFW Sports Center, 1200 N. Washington St., with partners and Raise the Rink capital campaign supporters.

From 6-7:30 p.m., the facility will be open for self-guided tours of the new and renovated spaces with staff available to answer questions. Free open skating will be offered in the new First International Bank & Trust Arena with skate rentals available for free on a first-come, first-served basis.

The expanded VFW Sports Center features the renovated Rink 2, now H.A. Thompson & Sons Arena, and a new third sheet of ice, called First International Bank & Trust Arena. Other facility enhancements include a new second lobby and concession area; additional larger locker rooms for entire facility; new multipurpose space for training, meetings and parties; new rooms for sports medicine and officials; additional restrooms; new office and storage space; and more parking.
