Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for Oct. 21, 2021

Meeting Recap for Oct. 21, 2021

President Matthew Wilke shared information about the new Bismarck Mandan Pickleball Club as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner.  The group organized to grow the sport and provide a unified voice with a long-term goal to help support BPRD pickleball projects.  They have about 70 members.  In the summer, pickleball is played on courts at North Central Park, Elk Ridge Park and Johnny Gisi Memorial Park.  When the weather turns colder, they play inside at Capital Racquet & Fitness Center.  Wilke thanked BPRD and its staff for support of pickleball in Bismarck.

BPRD Executive Director Kevin Klipfel provided an overview of the park district’s risk management program.  BPRD’s employee safety committee works hard to ensure the park district’s program keeps staff safe while striving for reduced premiums.

The Board authorized the addition of ISG to BPRD’s professional consultant list for 2021 and 2022.

The Board approved the 2022-2023 use agreement with Bismarck Gymnastics Academy.

The Board authorized staff to apply for a grant for a splash pad safety surface for New Generations Park.

The Board authorized a call for proposals to provide phase two of an ADA Access Audit and Transition Plan.

The Board authorized staff to call for bids for 2022 fertilizer, vending machine concessions and softball/soccer concessions.

The Board approved extensions of concession agreements with Epic Nutrition at BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center and Bismarck Sports Group for Riverwood Golf Course and VFW Sports Center.

The next Board meeting is Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
