Mike Wolf, co-director of the Sam McQuade Sr./Budweiser Charity Softball Tournament, shared information about the June 25-27 event. Recreation Supervisor Spencer Aune highlighted activities offered during July Celebration, a month-long event celebrating National Park and Recreation Month.
The Board approved a resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of General Obligation Park Facilities Bonds, Series 2021, for the purpose of funding construction of park improvements, including Sertoma Park parking lot, Sleepy Hollow trail, Gateway Pond trail, Capitol Outfall trail, Igoe Park parking lot, Bismarck Municipal Ballpark lighting system, Tom O’Leary restrooms, and related work and improvements.
The Board accepted the audit report as presented by Mindy Piatz of Brady, Martz and Associates.
The Board accepted the Elk Ridge Third Addition land donation, which will be integrated into the BPRD’s trail system and may eventually include a trailhead and parking area.
The Board approved Matching Grants in Round 2 to the following organizations:
- Bismarck Mandan Lacrosse Association – $1,920.00 for lacrosse shoulder pads
- Bismarck Hockey Boosters – $1,304.00 for bumpers for practices at VFW Sports Center
- Shift Bike Share Team – $25,000.00 for a bike share system
- Bismarck Gymnastics Academy – $1,442.53 for a women’s traditional single bar trainer with e-rail
- Bismarck Rotary Club – $2,500.00 for improvements to the Bismarck Rotary Arboretum
The Board approved naming the new neighborhood park under construction in the Silver Ranch development the “A. James Silbernagel Memorial Park.”
The Board accepted bids for replacement of the playground near shelter #11 in Sertoma Park and for pavement improvements at McDowell Dam Recreation Area but rejected the sole bid for the Cottonwood Park diamond #2 fence project due to cost. No bids were received for the Fox Island fish cleaning station improvements.
The Board approved the agreement to host the USA Softball Men’s Class D Slow Pitch Northern National Championship Tournament Sept. 3-6, 2021, which will bring 40-60 teams to Bismarck. The Board also approved advertising agreements with Bismarck Sports Group for VFS Sports Center, Rink 1, and with Bismarck Figure Skating Club and Bismarck Hockey Boosters for Capital Ice Complex.
The next Board meeting is Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
