FAQs

BisParks BCycle LogoProgram Basics

  • What is bike sharing?
    • Bike sharing is a great way to explore our community. Rent a bike at one of our four stations, go for a ride and then dock the bike at any station when you’re finished.
  • How much does it cost to rent a bike?
    • The cost of riding is classic pedal bike (green) is $5 plus $.02 per minute. The cost for a pedal assist e-bike (white) is $10 plus $.04 per minute.
  • How do I check out a bike?
    • Download the BCycle app and set up a user account with a credit card when you purchase your first ride. Check out a bike directly from the app.
  • How do I return a bike?
    • Bring the bike to an empty dock at any station. Firmly push the bike all the way into the dock until you hear three beeps and see a green light. If you don’t hear beeps or see the light, the bike hasn’t been returned and you are still responsible for it! If you’re having trouble, you can always return it to a neighboring dock.
  • How long can I keep the bike?
    • You can ride for as long as you like, but you must return the bike by 11pm on the day you rented it. The maximum rental time is 16 hours. If you do not return a bike in 24 hours, you will be charged a missing bike fee.
  • When is the program open?
    • You can check out bikes at any time between 7am and 11pm. Stations and bikes are removed for the winter and brought back into service in the spring. Our timeline is impacted by the weather, so we might adjust the dates to ensure safe riding.
  • How old do I need to be to ride a bike?
    • Our bike share system is for anyone ages 12 and up, but you must be age 18 or older to check out a bike. Parental permission is required for those ages 12-17.
  • Can my child ride with me?
    • Bikes are for single riders only.
  • Do I need to wear a helmet?
    • You aren’t required to wear a helmet while riding a bike, but it’s a good idea. Stop by a local bike shop if you’re interested in purchasing a helmet.

Bike Basics

  • How do I adjust the bike seat?
    • Open the clamp on the seat post, lower or raise the seat, and close the clamp again.
  • Do the bikes fit everyone?
    • Our suggested rider height range is from 5’ up to 6’2,” though everyone’s body is different and people above or below this range may find themselves totally fine or a bit uncomfortable. Our bikes can accommodate weights up to 250 lbs.
  • Can I ride a bike on the sidewalk?
  • How do I keep my bike secure if I want to take a break?
    • Your bike includes a lock in the basket. To use it, wrap the cable around a solid object (like a bike rack or pole), insert it into the slot below the basket, and remove the key. To unlock it, insert and turn the key, and return the cable to the basket. However, it’s best to dock the bike as you’re responsible for the bike and paying the fee until it’s returned to a station.

E-Bikes

  • How does the e-bike work?
    • White BCycle e-bikes check in and out of the existing docks, just like the green classic pedal bikes. When you check out an e-bike, turn on the power assist when you’re ready via the display on the left side of the handlebars. You can turn the power off at any time during your ride when you don’t want it. The power assist only works when you pedal.
  • How fast does the e-bike go?
    • The BCycle electric is a pedal assist bike that amplifyies your pedaling power. It features a Bosch system that provides support up to 15 mph.
  • How long will the battery last?
    • The BisParks BCycle team will take care of charging the e-bike batteries for you. They last about 30-40 miles per charge. You can check the battery life on any e-bike before checking it out by turning on the display on the left side of the handlebars. If your battery dies, you’ll still be able to ride – the assist will just stop boosting your ride.

Troubleshooting

  • What if there aren’t any bikes at my station?
    • You can wait at the station for someone to dock a bike, or you can use the BCycle app to see nearby stations with available bikes.
  • What if my destination station is full?
    • Wait until someone checks out a bike and opens up a dock or look for a nearby station with open docks using the BCycle app. Call 701-888-1030 in case of emergencies.
  • What if I’m involved in an accident?
    • If you’re involved in an accident, make sure everyone is safe and out of harm’s way. Call the police or other emergency services if necessary and then call 701-888-1030 to report the accident.
  • What if I notice a damaged bike at the station?
    • If you notice a bike is damaged at the station, call 701-888-1030 to report the problem and then choose another bike. If you notice the bike you checked out is damaged, dock it immediately, call 701-888-1030 to report the problem, and check out a different bike. If you call us, we’ll make sure you aren’t charged for checking out the damaged bike.
