Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for Jan. 16, 2025
Elyse Puklich and Jeff Steele of Aquastorm Swim Club shared information as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner. Aquastorm currently has 300 swimmers and 10 divers based at BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center. The swim team has won 26 consecutive short- and long-course state titles. The club provides swim programs for youth not on the swim team, as well as offering an inclusive swim opportunity.
BPRD Recreation Specialist Spencer Aune updated the Board on plans for the annual Flurry Fest in February. The month-long celebration of winter provides a diverse mix of free and low-cost events and programs for residents and visitors.
Gabe Schell, City of Bismarck Engineer, presented an update on the South Bismarck Flood Control Project and the community meeting held with BPRD on Dec. 11 regarding park district property options for the Bismarck Expressway alternative. BPRD Executive Director Kevin Klipfel shared results of the public survey that was open from Dec. 12-30. Schell reported he is working on a third option that would include impacts at both Clem Kelley Athletic Complex and Dakota Zoo. Information about the project and its alternatives are posted on the City of Bismarck website.
The Board approved bids for 2025 fertilizer, maintenance equipment, golf carts, portable toilets, and security services.
The Board authorized the addition of McGough Construction to the approved list for engineering, architecture and planning services; approved disposal of records per the BPRD retention schedule; adjusted soccer fees for Fore Seasons Center; and authorized a call for bids for a new playground at McDowell Dam Recreation Area and concrete projects throughout the district.
The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, Feb. 20, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
