Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for Sept. 19, 2024
Tyler Kralicek shared information about Burleigh County Extension as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner. Many youth activities are held at the Joann Hetzel Memorial 4-H Building at the Missouri Valley Complex (MVC), including Achievement Days, Farm Safety Camp and Life on the Farm. He also shared the positive momentum with the partners working together through the MVC Committee to improve the complex.
Kathy Feist, BPRD finance director, reviewed the 2025 Operating Budget. The Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners held its public hearing on the budget, with one comment in support. The Board approved the second reading of the budget resolution and mill levy and adopted the 2025 Operating Budget.
Mike Schwartz requested support to pursue a capital campaign to recognize baseball player Satchel Paige at the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. The Board authorized fundraising to begin for the project through the Bismarck Recreation Council and authorized staff to call for bids for a life-size bronze statue of Satchel Paige to be installed at the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark.
The Board authorized staff to call for bids for the second phase of electrical improvements at Eagles Park, which will add five 50-amp campsites. This project is a 2024 matching grant with Bismarck Eagles Club.
The Board approved the bid for 16 soccer goals from Game One in the amount of $18,000. This project is a 2024 matching grant with Dakota United Soccer Club.
The Board appointed Commissioner Herzog to serve on the Renaissance Zone Committee.
The Board authorized staff to call for qualifications for engineering, architect and planning services; approved concession extensions and addendums for Dairy Barn at Cottonwood Park Soccer Complex and Green Food 2 Go Vending Machines; and authorized staff to apply for grants from NDDOT Transportation Alternatives, NDDOT Special Road Fund and America the Beautiful Forestry Grant.
The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, Oct. 17, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
