Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for May 18, 2023
Richard Fleckenstein shared information about the Super Slide Amusement Park as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner. The family-oriented park has just started its 55th year and has added two new rides for a total of 16 activities. In 2022, more than 275 groups visited the park.
Another featured partner at the meeting was the Bismarck Horseshoe Pitchers Association, with Stuart Sipma presenting. The Wildwoods Horseshoe Complex, located in Sertoma Park, has 24 courts. The association has 45-50 members with Tuesday and Wednesday night leagues. Seven tournaments are scheduled this season.
BPRD Facility Specialist Katrina Hanenberg presented the 2023 U.S. Tennis Association Northern Member Organization of the Year Award received by BPRD.
BPRD Executive Director provided an update on the VFW Sports Center Expansion Project, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year. Interior work on the existing structure is underway, including installation of a new fire system and demolition of old lockers rooms. The steel is going up for the new rink.
The Board approved the 2024-2026 Strategic Plan.
BPRD Finance Director Kathy Feist reviewed the 2024 budget development schedule.
The Board approved agreements with ActiveNet for the recreation management software system and AE2S for the Hay Creek retaining wall repair project, as well as authorized staff to apply for electrical grants for upgrades to the Operations Division storage buildings and the BPRD administrative office.
